Experience
Rayna began her photography adventures at the age of 12 when she received her first 35 mm camera from her mother after 2 years of sneaking into her mothers room to steal and use her Polaroid camera whenever her mom was running errands. She exhausted all the art classes her school offered except photography. Rayna was always drawn to art and dreamed of becoming a famous and remembered artist but had more passion for the dream of doing a form of art but was burning through all the options of art she could find classes for in order to find what form of art made her heart sway. She would spend hours on her bedroom floor practicing her sketching skills and painting but she never felt the kind of happiness she was looking for. Her school brought on a new art class that she never even considered when she began her search until she found no other art classes were available to her as she had taken them all. She took her new 35 mm and started her photography class that focused on film and dark room studies. Rayn found her heart swaying with photography and ran with it. She spent more time in the darkroom than most the students and even on the last day of school while other kids ran around getting more autographs for their yearbook she remained in class taking candid photos of the students as her way to practice more journalistic style photography. Rayn would move on to having sleepovers with another photography friend and dressing up in various old school dance outfits to model for the camera. Later Rayn started hiring models to allow her to do full photo shoots and build her portfolio while going to various photography studios and doing interviews. One company hired her to go around the maternity ward at her local hospital and sell photo packages and take photos of newborns. She decided to leave after some months of being kept to a very strict protocol of only doing certain poses and not being allowed any use of her photos for a portfolio but the job did teach her how much more can be done in the editing room.
Rayn had attended college in 2001 until Sept 11th when classes were interrupted due to the Twin Towers falling after a terrorist attack and soon after this she began rethinking her studies and decided to leave in order to learn more on the streets and earn more experience than could be done in a classroom. Unfortunately everywhere she turned she met a closed door. In 2012 she decided to return to college in order to study Graphic arts which had many classes regarding photography and editing. This was the closest she could get to learning how to become more successful at photography in a 50 mile radius of her home. After graduating in 2014 Cum Luade with 2 Dean's List awards Rayn began new shoots and nature photography and re-edited old photos with her new learned techniques. She rebuilt her portfolio and website and began networking more. She was featured for her pastel art in the local art celebration contest 'Pastels on 5th' and has done a couple of photo jobs for businesses which got her photos on the big newspapers for her home state Colorado. She continues working to sell her artistic photographs and book jobs for modeling, business events, and other occasions. Rayn had big dreams of becoming a movie still photographer but has had to change her photographic goals to suit her lifestyle. She has always idolized Jaap Buitendijk, a major movie photographer who has photographed all of the Harry Potter films, the new Divergent movie series and many other big time movies, she remains a big fan.
During Rayn's period of education and unsuccessful photography job hunting her health began to decline quickly and now she must walk with crutches or remain in a wheelchair. Regardless of her disability Rayn continues her photography and continues to dream big, hoping to get her break someday soon and have a gallery opening with her artistic and nature photography.
